A 35-year-old woman was beaten to death on suspicion of being a witch in Nawada, Bihar. Four other people were injured in the attack by neighbours. This dispute started over the illness of a child.

Nawada: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman was beaten to death and four others injured on suspicion of being a witch in Bihar’s Nawada district on Thursday. Police said that a long-running dispute between two neighboring families resulted in the attack.

The victim has been identified as Kiran Devi. He was allegedly targeted after a child from a neighboring house fell ill. The child was taken to a doctor and diagnosed with a brain disease, but superstition overcame prudence.

Neighbors reportedly accused Kiran Devi of practicing witchcraft and held her responsible for the child’s illness. According to the victim’s family, Mukesh Chaudhary, Mahendra Chaudhary, Natru Chaudhary and Shobha Devi, all relatives of a neighboring family, allegedly attacked them with bricks, stones and iron rods.

Kiran Devi’s husband Naresh Chaudhary was also among the injured. He was accompanied by three other people who tried to intervene, but were overpowered during the violent clash. Police have confirmed that the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken.
