Runway operation halted for an hour due to bad weather

A spokesperson of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) said runway operations were temporarily halted at around 10:17 am due to heavy rain, low visibility and strong winds of up to 42 knots. According to the spokesperson, this decision was taken keeping in mind the safety of passengers, aircraft and ground staff. Runway operations were resumed at 11:17 am after the weather improved. Overall, airport operations were affected for about 60 minutes.

IMD issues red alert for Mumbai

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai on Sunday. There is a warning of very heavy rain in some areas of the city during the night. Life has been affected in many parts of Mumbai due to continuous monsoon rains. Due to heavy rains many problems came to light in different areas of the city. Authorities have appealed to people to avoid non-essential travel and stay away from waterlogged and coastal areas.

  • IMD has predicted moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms in the national capital Delhi. According to the department, the intensity of rain can range from 5 to 20 mm per hour.
  • Winds can blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour in South-East, East, Shahdara, Central, North-East, South, New Delhi, South-West, West, North-West and Northern areas of Delhi.
  • Wind gusts can reach up to 60 km per hour at some places. IMD has also said that between July 6 and July 10, there is a possibility of rain at many places in Delhi along with Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.

How will the weather be in Himachal Pradesh?

  • Monsoon activities are likely to intensify in Himachal Pradesh from July 5. Shimla-based Meteorological Center has issued orange and yellow alert for many districts till July 12.
  • Orange alert of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued in Una, Kangra and Sirmaur districts on Monday. The same warning will continue for Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts on Tuesday.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has appealed to people living in areas prone to landslides and flash floods to move to safe places in view of the continuous heavy rains. People have been asked to follow the instructions of the local administration.

Monsoon is fully active in Gujarat. Junagadh recorded very heavy rainfall, causing severe waterlogging in many low-lying areas.

Red and orange alert in West Bengal

IMD has issued a red alert for South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur districts. Orange alert has been declared in Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur and Howrah. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the active weather system, there may be heavy rain in these areas.

Monsoon speed will increase in Haryana and Punjab

Southwest Monsoon has reached parts of Haryana and Punjab on July 1. The Meteorological Department estimates that the monsoon will advance to the remaining areas of both the states in the next four days, as the weather conditions remain favorable.
