How dangerous is mercury for the body?

According to experts, mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal. It is used in some illegal skin-lightening products to suppress melanin formation in the skin, which can make the skin appear lighter for a period of time. But long-term use of such products can pose serious health risks. Mercury can enter the body through the skin and cause damage to the kidneys, nervous system and other organs. This is why health experts always recommend using only cosmetic products certified and approved by regulatory agencies.

Questions raised on social media, what should consumers do?

After this matter came to light, people raised questions on social media that if the product really contains harmful ingredients, then how did it become available on the online platform.

Before buying any skin-whitening or beauty product, check its manufacturer, license, ingredients and regulatory approval. If you experience skin, kidney or other health related problems after using any cosmetic product, stop using it immediately, consult a doctor and also inform the concerned regulatory authority.
