The Indian stock market continued to fall for the fourth consecutive session on Thursday, January 8, due to uncertainty over the India-US trade agreement, lack of new factors domestically and rising geopolitical tensions. Despite this, shares of some selected textile companies attracted attention, most of which witnessed a rise.

Meanwhile, the share price of Mukesh Ambani-partnered company Alok Industries rose by 8.5% to reach a two-week high of Rs 17.21 and if the stock maintains its rise till the end of the session, it will be its first gain in three sessions. Although there is no fundamental reason behind this surge in the share price of Alok Industries, there was a significant increase in trading volume, with around 23.3 million shares being bought and sold on NSE and BSE till 11:30 am.

company performance

This was nine times more than the average weekly volume of 2.5 million shares, according to Trendline data. The company’s shares witnessed heavy selling pressure between July and December 2025, during which the share price declined by 22% and all seven months closed in loss. This also contributed to the 24% decline in CY25, which was the biggest YoY decline since 2022. Reliance Industries holds 40% stake in Alok Industries. Established in 1986, Alok Industries is a fully integrated textile company headquartered in Mumbai.

It has a strong presence in both cotton and polyester sectors. In the cotton sector, the company is fully integrated from spinning to weaving, processing, ready-to-wear, bedsheets, towels and clothes. In 2020, Reliance Industries, in association with JM Financial Asset Reconstruction, successfully acquired Alok Industries through an auction in the insolvency process initiated by the lenders who wanted to recover outstanding loans. According to BSE shareholding data, RIL held 40% stake in the company at the end of the September quarter, while JM Financial ARC held 34.99% stake in the company.
