29-year-old fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who is set to represent South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026, on Wednesday (January 7) became the first bowler to pick up a hat-trick in SA20. Ngidi dismissed three Durban’s Super Giants batters in three balls on Wednesday to help the Keshav Maharaj-led side secure a close win by 15 runs at Kingsmead in Durban.
Ngidi opened his wicket account by removing David Wiese on the second ball of the 18th over of DSG’s innings and on the next two balls removed Sunil Narine and Gerald Coetzee. Both Narine and Coetzee got out for golden ducks.
The clip of Ngidi taking three wickets in three balls is now going viral on the internet.
The right-arm pacer, who has played for Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and RCB in the IPL, finished with figures of 3 for 39 in four overs on Wednesday.

In the 16th league match of SA20 2025-26, DSG skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bowl first. The visitors rode on Shai Hope’s unbeaten 118-run knock to post a total of 201/4 in 20 overs. Hope added 101 runs for the first wicket with Connor Esterhuizen (37 from 28) and hammered 9 fours and 9 sixes during his stay at the crease.
The score of 118 by Hope on Wednesday is the highest individual score in SA20’s history by any batter.

In reply to the target of 202 runs, Super Giants openers Kane Williamson and Marques Ackerman added 39 runs for the first wicket in four overs, but after Marques Ackerman’s dismissal, DSG kept losing wickets at regular intervals. For them, Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 97 runs, but he failed to help the hosts from getting the better of Capitals, who are being coached by Sourav Ganguly.
