In the society, father is considered the protector of children. But an incident has come to light from Birur in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, which has put humanity to shame. Here a father pushed his own minor daughter into the hell of prostitution for the greed of money.
The girl’s own grandmother was also involved in this heinous crime. Police have so far arrested 12 accused including father and grandmother.
The mother of the victim minor girl had died some time ago, after which she was studying while living with her relatives. After completing PUC (12th) she returned to her father’s house. He hoped that his father would support him, but little did he know that his own blood was preparing his deal.
Greed and conspiracy of 5 thousand rupees per day
In the month of December, the father took his daughter to her grandmother’s house. During the two-day stay there, the grandmother and father together made a deal for the girl. Meanwhile, a person named Bharat Shetty reached there, who lured the father that if the girl comes into this business, she can earn Rs 5,000 per day. The father traded his daughter’s dignity for just a few rupees.
They took him to Mangaluru and played cruel game for two days.
The accused father took his daughter and went to Mangaluru with Bharat Shetty. On the way, the girl told her father that she was on her periods and was unwell, but the greedy father did not lose heart. The next day Bharat Shetty threatened the girl that some people would come and she would have to have relations with them.
What did the victim tell the police?
Four men aged between 20 and 45 took turns to rape her.
When the girl protested and begged to leave citing her age, the accused did not listen to her.
By giving money to the accused Bharat Shetty, he continued sexually exploiting the victim for two consecutive days.
Kingpin of ‘meat trade’ also arrested
Gathering courage, the minor lodged a complaint with the police, after which there was a stir in the police department. Taking prompt action, the police arrested a total of 12 people including the victim’s father, maternal grandmother and the main accused Bharat Shetty.
Investigation has revealed that Bharat Shetty runs a big network of prostitution in Dakshina Kannada district. More than 8 prostitution cases are already registered against her in Mangaluru and Udupi. The police are now conducting raids in search of other people associated with this gang.
