New Delhi: Tata Motors has introduced petrol engine options for both the Harrier and Safari, expanding the line-up beyond their diesel-only offerings. The two SUVs now use Tata’s in-house developed TGDi Hyperion turbo-petrol engine, which was first seen on the 2025 Tata Sierra.
The Tata Harrier petrol is priced between Rs 12.89 lakh and Rs 24.69 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks the first time the Harrier has been offered with a petrol engine. The Tata Safari petrol, which has also been long awaited, starts at Rs 13.29 lakh (ex-showroom).

In the Harrier, the new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine produces 170 hp and 280 Nm of torque. This is 10 hp and 25 Nm more than the same engine in the Sierra, mainly to handle the Harrier’s higher weight. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic sourced from Aisin. Power is sent only to the front wheels. For comparison, the Harrier diesel continues with a 2-litre engine producing the same power but higher torque at 350 Nm.

Like the Harrier, the Safari is offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, with front-wheel drive as standard.
