For the first time one day, two warships in different shipyards joined the Navy
This is the first time the frontline warship built in two different shipyards has been included in the Navy on the same day. This has given a glimpse of India’s increasing self -sufficiency in the defense sector. Udayagiri and Himgiri Project of 6700 tonnes are new warships of 17A class. These projects are based on the frigate of 17 (Shivalik) class. These include design, stealth technology, arms and sensor systems.

Both warships are equipped with BrahMos missile
Both the warships have modern diesel or codog engines. These include advanced indigenous weapons and sensors. Both frigates are equipped with BrahMos missiles. This supersonic cruise missile, which is surface -to -surface surface, can be used for both a warship and target on the ground. Both warships have been installed to air -distance surface missiles to protect against air strikes. Along with this, they also have 76 mm MR guns and 30 mm and 12.7 mm close-in arms systems.
Udayagiri and Himgiri prepared from 75 percent indigenous materials
INS Udayagiri and INS Himgiri have been prepared with about 75 percent indigenous materials. Hundreds of MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) have participated. Udayagiri is built in Majgaon Dock, Mumbai. At the same time, Himgiri has been prepared by Kolkata -based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). These ships were designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau (WDB).
Indian Navy’s eastern fleet strong
After his watering, both Udayagiri and Himgiri will join the eastern fleet. This will strengthen India’s maritime security situation in the Indian Ocean region. The Ministry of Defense has stated that the involvement of these ships will increase battle preparations for the Navy and will confirm India’s commitment to achieve self -sufficiency in warship construction.
