A cyber researcher discovered a major flaw in ‘Front Gate Tickets’ with the help of AI. Due to this, there was a danger of data theft of lakhs of people and making of fake tickets. The flaw was fixed within 24 hours, no data was leaked.
What if a hacker uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) as his weapon? Doing something similar, Ian Carroll, a cyber security researcher, has revealed a shocking security flaw in the ticketing website of America’s biggest music festivals. He achieved this feat with the help of Anthropic Company’s advanced AI model ‘Claude 4.7 Opus’. This glitch was in the system of a company named ‘Front Gate Tickets’, which sells tickets for America’s famous music festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and South by Southwest.
Break into the system with the help of AI
By taking advantage of this security flaw, any hacker could enter the system. Due to this, personal information of millions of people could have been stolen and even expensive tickets including VIP passes could have been made fraudulently without any permission. Carroll, founder of travel platform ‘Seats.aero’, said that AI discovered such methods of hacking which even he himself had not thought of. With the help of AI tools, they also dodged the security systems which are usually installed to prevent attacks on the website. However, Carroll clarified that despite having access to the system’s administrative accounts, he did not misuse it. He did not create any fake ticket and directly informed the company about this discrepancy.
AI also helpful in security, preventing flaws
Front Gate Tickets confirmed that the issue was fully fixed within 24 hours of receiving the report. The company also said that no customer’s data has been leaked. This flaw was not in the website used by the common people, but in the system used for entry scanner at the festival venue. This incident is a clear indication of how helpful AI can prove to be for hackers. At the same time, AI model making company Anthropic says that they give their AI models to security researchers so that they can responsibly improve online security. The company also said that they take strict measures to prevent misuse of their systems.
