New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the next phase of India’s battery ecosystem with the commencement of local production of hybrid battery electrode at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant in Gujarat. The plant is a joint venture of Toshiba, Denso and Suzuki and is expected to boost indegenious manufacturing and clean energy innovation.
The e-Vitara was first unveiled in a near-production phase at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo at the start of this year. Three months on, production is set to start with cars set to roll off the line for exports to more than 100 countries, which include markets like Europe and even Japan. Domestically, it is set to arrive in early parts of 2026.
Today at 10:30 am, Prime Minister Modi is expected to inaugurate the localised production of hybrid battery electrodes and flag off a Battery electric vehicle, according to the official press release. The e-Vitara is set to be Suzuki’s first global strategic battery EV built in India that will be shipped abroad.
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara features and powertrain
The e-Vitara comes with the brand’s all-new Heartech-e EV platform, coming with 18-inch alloy wheels, a rather bold SUV stance. The cabin is loaded with a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS and a panoramic sunroof. Even the rear passengers get sliding and reclining seats.
The e-Vitara price is likely to start at Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) and is based on a platform co-developed with Toyota. It will be coming with two battery options, 49 kWh and a 61 kWh LFP blade-cell battery pack and is likely to have a 500 km of range.
