Varanasi: The mobile theft at Assi Ghat during the New Year holidays surprised everyone. But the real hero of this incident was Mumbai’s software engineer Ankita Gupta. Amidst the huge crowd at the ghat, a young man snatched his iPhone worth around Rs 2 lakh and ran away.
Despite the huge crowd at Assi Ghat in Varanasi, security arrangements were missing. Ankita immediately lodged a police complaint. He handed over the mobile bill, documents and EMI number to the police. But the police did not trace the location and did not even search the accused.
The story of Ankita’s wisdom and courage began from here. He himself found out the location of the thief with the help of mobile tracing app. After this, they along with the local people started searching for the whereabouts of the accused. The next day at five in the morning Ankita again reached the same area. This time the local people were also with him.
It was revealed that the suspicious youth lives in a rented house on GT Road. The landlord helped in opening the lock. Even though the thief escaped, 15 to 20 expensive mobiles were found in the room. Ankita recognized her iPhone immediately. Ankita herself stayed at the spot at 2 o’clock in the night and informed the police. Police reached the spot and confiscated all the mobiles. Inspector Bhelupur Sudhir Tripathi said that raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
This incident proved that when the administration slows down, even common people can expose the criminals with their intelligence and courage. Ankita’s bravery is going viral on social media today and has become an inspiration for people. The citizens of Varanasi also appreciated his bravery.
