There are many such twists in the stories of Ramayana, which force us to think. One such biggest incident is the killing of the monkey king girl by Lord Shri Ram. Maryada Purushottam Ram always followed religion and morality throughout the Ramayana.
But when it came to killing Bali, instead of fighting from the front, he hid behind a tree and fired the arrow. For centuries people have been asking this question as to why Lord Ram had to do this. There was a big mystery behind this and a miraculous boon given to Bali, which is important for everyone to know.
mighty and mighty king
Actually, Bali was not an ordinary monkey, he was a very powerful and mighty king. Bali had received a boon from Lord Brahma, which made him invincible in war. The boon was that whoever would come in front of Bali and fight with him, half of his strength would be sucked into Bali’s body.
This means that the power of the opponent would be reduced to half and Bali’s strength would be one and a half times his own power and half the power of the opponent. Because of this boon, no warrior or god in the world could win by defeating Bali head-on.
Big religious crisis in front of Shri Ram
Because of this boon of Bali, Lord Shri Ram was in a big dilemma. If Ram had fought directly in front of Bali, then according to the rule of boon, half of Ram’s power would also have gone to Bali.
Although Shri Ram was God in person and his glory was infinite, but he came to this earth incarnate as an ordinary human being. He did not want to disrespect the laws of nature and the boon given by Lord Brahma. Therefore, to maintain the dignity of the boon, he chose to attack secretly and not in front of the girl.
injustice to sugriva
Apart from this, there was another very big reason behind this massacre, which was related to religion and justice. Bali had done a great injustice to his younger brother Sugriva. He had beaten Sugriva and thrown him out of the kingdom and had forcibly taken his wife Ruma with him.
According to the scriptures, the younger brother’s wife is like a daughter. This act of Bali completely fell in the category of sin, for which he was certain to be punished. When Sugriva took refuge in Shri Ram, God promised to provide justice to his friend.
Why did you wage war secretly?
When Shri Ram’s arrow hit Bali and he fell on the ground, he also asked the same question to Ram while dying. Bali said, O Raghav, you are the protector of religion, then why did you fight secretly from me.
Then Lord Rama lovingly explained to him that the duty of a king is to destroy unrighteousness. You have committed a grave sin by keeping your living brother’s wife hostage, hence you deserve punishment.
Also, since you are an ape, it is not considered against policy for any hunter or king to hunt animals secretly. After listening to Ram’s words, Bali realized his mistake and sacrificed his life at the feet of the Lord.
