Mahavatar, starring Vicky Kaushal has reportedly been delayed. The ambitious mythological epic produced by Maddock Films will now go floors, not next year, but in 2027. This means it won’t arrive on its initial release date during Christmas 2026. Several names are popping up around the latest development, from Shah Rukh Khan’s King to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War .
Mahavatar’s delay and repercussions
Mahavatar was initially set to beging shooting in the final quarter of this year. But according to a report by PeepingMoon.com, the production has got pushed to begin in April 2026. If that’s the new window, the movie will in no way be ready for release by December 2026. The report cites that since period romance Love & War is running beyond schedule, Vicky’s dates are becoming an issue and a major reason for Mahavatar’s delay. Also given Vicky will need to beef up for playing Lord Parashurama in this Amar Kaushik directorial, he’ll require to commit for an intensive physical training for the role before getting on with a six-month schedule, apart from post production that includes a lot of visual effects.
Given all this leaves its initial December 2026 window open, sources believe Shah Rukh Khan’s next film King might fill in on the release date.
Mahavatar to clash with Stree 3?
The report also stated that Maddock Films might now opt for a new release date for Mahavatar on Independence Day 2027 weekend. Interestingly, that date is already blocked by the banner’s other flagship franchise Stree 3, with regard to the changes in its horror-comedy universe’s movie releases. Now, whether or not Mahavatar will face scheduling uncertainty, or get into production smoothly despite a delay will be know in future.
