The impact of Yogi government’s road safety campaigns has been visible. In the year 2025, four lakh less challans were registered in UP. Strictness on helmet, seatbelt and overspeeding continues. Digital surveillance and National Road Safety Month in 2026 will further intensify the campaigns.

Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Transport Department continuously conducted awareness campaigns regarding road safety and traffic rules throughout the year. The positive impact of these efforts has been seen. In the year 2025, about four lakh less challans were registered as compared to the previous year, which shows the increasing awareness of road safety rules among the common citizens.

In the recent review meeting of the Transport Department, officials told that while 17,58,930 challans were registered in the year 2024, this number reduced to 13,78,919 in the year 2025. About Rs 454.49 crore was recovered through these challans.

Focus on digital surveillance and awareness in the year 2026

The Transport Department said that digital monitoring systems and awareness campaigns will be intensified to further strengthen road safety in the year 2026. It is being started in January 2026 with the National Road Safety Month, in which special campaigns will be run in the entire state.

Highest challan for not wearing helmet

As per the vision of Yogi government, traffic rules were strictly followed to reduce road accidents. Due to this, there was an overall reduction in the cases of violations, but the cases of not wearing helmet were reported the most. In the year 2025:

  • 6,32,901 challans for not wearing helmet
  • 14,535 driving licenses suspended
  • 1,33,189 challans for seatbelt violation
  • Big reduction in overspeeding cases

  2. 2025: 3,30,171 cases
  • 3,611 cases of drink and drive
  • 56,079 challans for wrong side driving

Strict action on overloading in commercial vehicles

The transport department also launched a strict enforcement campaign against commercial vehicles. In the year 2025:

  • 54,923 cases of overloading
  • 11,892 challans for wrong number plate
  • 1,226 cases of cargo carrying passengers
  • 20,431 challans for not installing speed limit device

Thousands of cases registered in special checking campaigns

Under special campaigns conducted by the Department:

  • 36,773 challans for unregistered e-rickshaws in April
  • 1,786 cases of inter-district overloaded goods vehicles
  • 2,218 challans for unauthorized passenger vehicles in May
  • 1,821 challans on commercial use of private vehicles in June
  • 6,832 challans for violating vehicles from other states in September
  • 5,073 challans for dumper trucks without number plates in October

Intensive checking campaign in National Road Safety Month

According to the Transport Department, intensive checking and awareness campaigns will be conducted across the state during the National Road Safety Month starting from January 1. Police, Public Works Department, Health Department and Information Department will also cooperate with the Transport Department in this campaign.

No Helmet No Fuel campaign and special monitoring on black spots

‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ campaign is being run throughout the month to increase awareness among motorcyclists. Along with this, special vigilance is being taken in the identified black spots and high risk zones of the state. Awareness programs on road safety will also be organized in schools and colleges through the Information Department.
