It became the cleanest city in the country and has been achieving this title for eight consecutive years. Let us know how Indore became the power house of Madhya Pradesh leaving Bhopal?

Indore remains a contender for the capital

Indore has had dominance for a long time. Madhya Pradesh was formed in the year 1956. Before that, from 1950 to 1956, there was Madhya Bharat state, which had two capitals. Gwalior was the winter capital of Central India and Indore served as the summer capital. When Madhya Pradesh was formed in the year 1956, Vindhya Pradesh and Bhopal provinces were also included in it.

The capital of Vindhya Pradesh was then Rewa. After the formation of the new state Madhya Pradesh, along with Indore, Gwalior, Bhopal and Jabalpur staked claim to become the capital. Because the then Nawab of Bhopal, Hamadullah, instead of maintaining relations with India, stood in opposition to it with the Nizam of Hyderabad. Therefore, to stop the protests, it was decided to make Bhopal the capital. Then there were more buildings etc. for government employees in Bhopal at that time. It was directly connected to the railway line. Still, the importance of Indore was not underestimated and it was given a High Court. Jabalpur also got the High Court and Gwalior was made the revenue division headquarters.

Center of education and economic capital

With time, more changes took place and Indore moved forward. It emerged as a center of education for central India. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) were also established here. Due to this, students not only from the country but also from abroad started coming here to study and its importance increased even more. The most important thing is that Indore is the only city in the country where both these institutions are established together.

Not only this, even though Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Indore is known as the commercial capital of this state. Madhya Pradesh Stock Exchange was also located here at one time. The gross domestic product (GDP) of Indore is about 14 billion dollars. Here, industries and businesses related to cotton cloth, iron, chemicals, pharma, readymade garments and machinery are flourishing. One third of the total namkeen in India is produced in Indore only, which is a turnover of about Rs 420 crore. The government has established IT Park, Super Corridor, Special Economic Zone and many other projects here. Today it is connected to the rest of the country by rail, air and road. There is also a 12 km bus rapid transit system here.

title of cleanest city

It was due to Indore’s dominance that when the Smart City project was started for the first time in the country, Indore was one of the 20 cities that were selected. After this, Indore did what no city in the country has been able to do till date. It became the cleanest city in the country and has been achieving this title for eight consecutive years. Indore’s technology of waste management is an example for all cities.

Not only this, Indore has developed a sustainable model for earning money from waste, which is no less than a benchmark for other cities. While generally garbage is collected in two categories, dry and wet, Indore went ahead and started collecting it by dividing it into six categories. Presently, in this city with a population of more than 35 lakhs, tons of garbage is generated, which is disposed of with complete success.

Historical city of Madhya Pradesh

Indore is also a historically important city. There are historical places like Rajwada and Lal Bagh here. Rajwada has seven floors which reflects the glorious history of Indore. It was built by the Holkar dynasty. Along with Maratha, Mughal architecture can also be seen here. This building is made of stone as well as wood. It also has a courtyard and a small museum. There is also a light and sound show here in the evening. Lalbagh also belongs to Holkar period. European architecture is reflected in it. Italian marble flooring and Belgian glass have been installed in it. It is completely surrounded by lush green gardens.

culturally rich

Along with this, there is Patalpani waterfall, about 40 km away from the city for tourism, which adds to its natural beauty. The water falls from a height of about 300 feet and is now famous as a picnic spot. The Bada Ganpati Temple of Indore is famous for having one of the tallest Ganesh statues in the world. That’s why Bhopal could not become Indore

Bhopal is the capital of Madhya Pradesh, hence it gets administrative focus but not much efforts have been made here in the direction of commerce and trade or there are no people who can increase it. On the other hand, Indore has always been a hub of commerce and trade, the benefits of which it is still getting today. Talking about cleanliness, it is not the work of government machinery alone. Obviously the people of Indore themselves are cleanliness lovers. However, along with the business environment, Indore is gradually becoming a concrete jungle under the guise of modernity. Food joints and nightlife are expanding rapidly here. On the other hand, Bhopal is known for its greenery and lakes.
