Truth about insects in cabbage
A girl living in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh died in RML Hospital, Delhi. About 25 lumps were found in the girl’s head in her MRI. Doctors suspect that these lumps are caused by cabbage. The worm present in the cabbage went to the brain and caused the death of the girl. In such a situation, the question arises whether cabbage really contains such insects which go into the brain? Does medical science also accept this? Let us know about this from the doctors.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, Associate Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at AIIMS New Delhi It is said that the story about cabbage and its worms is a myth. There is no evidence in medical science that there is any worm in cabbage which goes into the brain. Yes, it is true that any vegetable that grows on the ground can contain a parasite called T. solium. Which is so small that it is not even visible. This parasite appears on vegetables when an infected animal defecates or urinates on these vegetables. This parasite is formed in the intestines of animals and comes to the vegetable through feces or urine.
Cysticercosis disease is caused by parasite
Dr Ashok explains that when a person eats a vegetable containing parasites, it goes into the stomach and lays eggs there. Cysticercosis occurs due to infection with parasite eggs. After entering the body, these eggs hatch in your intestines and enter the tissues of your body and form cysts. These cysts do not usually cause symptoms unless there are a large number of them in one area. But in large numbers, they show symptoms and when they spread in the body, it causes a disease called Neurocysticercosis.
Then why do people talk about cabbage worms?
Dr. Daljit Singh, Unit Head, Department of Neurosurgery, Max Hospital, Delhi. It is said that there are no worms in cabbage, but there can be parasites, they can also be found in undercooked pork and can also be found in any other vegetable growing on the ground like spinach, broccoli, capsicum. In such a situation, it is wrong to say that only cabbage contains a worm which goes into the brain.
All this is caused by parasites. But if common people are not informed about parvizi, then they think that it is a worm and it gets into the stomach, but it is not so. It is the parasite which first enters the stomach. From here a hole is made in the intestines. After this, it reaches the brain or other organs through blood. If it enters the brain it can prove fatal.
is there any cure for this
If you wash these vegetables thoroughly or remove their first layer, then these parasites are eliminated and there is no risk of them entering the stomach, there is a treatment for it, but once the infection reaches the brain, its treatment is difficult, but if it is in the stomach, medicine is given to kill it. Due to which life can be saved.
