According to the legend, Mother Parvati, the daughter of Himalaya, started rigorous penance to get Lord Shankar as her husband. Mother Goddess was doing this difficult penance on the beach. His spiritual intensity was very strong. Because of this there was a commotion in all three worlds. Seeing the ascetic nature of the mother, Samudra Dev (Varun Dev) became fascinated by her. After this he appeared before Goddess Parvati and proposed marriage to her.
After this, Mother Parvati refused to accept the marriage proposal of Samudra Dev in a very calm and dignified manner. He told Samudra Dev that his heart and life were dedicated only to Mahadev. She has resolved to marry him. Samudra Dev’s ego was hurt after hearing the praise of Mahadev from his mother. After this he became angry and started speaking ill of Lord Shankar.
Samudra Dev insulted Mahadev
He insulted Lord Shiva and said that he is just a recluse wearing ashes. Then the ocean praised itself and said that it is blessed with all the virtues. Are huge. Quench the thirst of the entire world. He asked Mother Parvati to leave him a tribal and become the queen of the sea. Mother Parvati could not bear the insult of her future husband. She became angry with the sea.
Mother Parvati cursed
Mother roared and said that the one who has so much pride in the sweet water and its usefulness will be destroyed today itself. Your water will become useless for humans. Cursing the sea god, Mother Parvati said that your water will become salty from today onwards. Any man will take even a drop of your water to quench his thirst. It is said that due to the curse of Mother Parvati the sea water became salty.
