India has rolled out the new Electronic Overseas Citizen of India (e-OCI) Card, replacing the traditional paper-based OCI booklet with a digital system designed to simplify travel and document management for Overseas Citizens of India.
For millions of OCI cardholders, the biggest change is simple. If you receive a new passport after turning 20, you will no longer need to apply for a fresh OCI booklet. Instead, you’ll only need to update your passport details online within three months.
What Changes With the e-OCI Card?
The new platform moves the entire OCI process online. Eligible applicants can submit applications, upload documents, track progress, and download their approved e-OCI card digitally through the relevant Indian Mission abroad or the Foreigners Registration Office in India. Rollout timelines may vary across Indian missions.
Every OCI holder will also receive a unique registration number, making records easier to track across government systems.
