1. Drink lukewarm water
Drinking lukewarm water first thing after overeating provides relief to the stomach. It activates digestive enzymes and reduces heaviness. According to experts, lukewarm water helps in digesting food quickly and expelling gas.
2. Eat celery
The thymol element present in celery improves digestion and reduces gas and acidity. After overeating, taking half a teaspoon of celery with lukewarm water provides relief from stomach ache and bloating.
3. Chew fennel or drink fennel tea
Fennel helps in calming the digestive system. The fiber and antioxidants present in it reduce abdominal swelling and gas. This is the reason why it is advisable to eat fennel after meals.
4. Use ginger
Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, which reduce stomach irritation and nausea. Chewing a little ginger or drinking ginger tea speeds up digestion and makes the stomach feel lighter.
5. Take a light walk
Instead of lying down immediately after eating, take a light walk for 10-15 minutes. This speeds up the digestion process and reduces the chances of gas formation. Experts say that a light walk helps in controlling both blood sugar and indigestion.
