Amarnath Yatra 2026: This year the holy journey of Amarnath has started. The first batch of Amarnath Yatra reached Kashmir on Thursday 03 July amid tight security, in which there were more than 4800 devotees. This holy journey of Amarnath will last for 57 days and will end on 28th August. This journey passes through very difficult paths, but still a special kind of enthusiasm is seen among the devotees of Mahadev for this journey.

Devotees complete the journey by chanting the name of Lord Shiva and have darshan of Baba Barfani. Amarnath cave is situated at an altitude of about 3978 meters, but it is not just a pilgrimage, rather it is considered to be the most famous mythological place related to faith, penance, renunciation and the mystery of immortality of Lord Shiva. It is believed that it was here that Lord Shiva narrated the story of immortality to Mother Parvati.

according to legend…

According to the legend, one day Mother Parvati asked a question to Lord Shiva. Mother God said that you are immortal, but why do I have to do hard penance to get you in every birth? Mother asked Mahadev, what is the secret of your immortality? At first God did not wish to tell the secret of immortality to the mother, but then on the request of the mother he agreed.

Mahadev told Mother Parvati that I will tell you this story of immortality at a place where no third living being is present except me and you. Then after a lot of searching, Mahadev found a deserted cave in the Himalayas. This place later became known as the cave of Amarnath. It is believed that before narrating the story to the mother, Shiva left every creature and symbol with him on the way.

Mother Parvati fell asleep

Mahadev did this so that no other living being could hear that story of immortality except Mother Parvati. Lord Shiva abandoned all the symbols associated with the five elements and went to the Amarnath cave with Mother Parvati. Inside the cave, Lord Shiva started narrating the story of immortality to Mother Parvati, but the story was so long that the mother fell asleep. Meanwhile, the two pigeons present in the cave kept listening to the story carefully.

Mahadev thought that Mother Parvati was listening to the story, but at the end of the story, Lord Shiva saw that Mother Parvati was sleeping. Then this question came to his mind that who was listening to the story? When he looked around he saw two pigeons. Then God became angry that someone else heard his secret story. Then both the frightened pigeons immediately prayed to Lord Shiva. Then God’s anger subsided.

two pigeons became immortal

After this Shiva told both the pigeons that they had become immortal. God told both the pigeons that from today onwards both of them will live forever in this cave as the symbol of Shiva and Parvati. This place was named Amarnath because of the immortal story narrated by Lord Shiva. Amarnath means Amar meaning beyond death and Nath means Lord Shiva.
