SA20: What is wreaking havoc in cricket? If you want to know about this, then you can watch the stormy innings of Dewald Brewis and Sherfane Rutherford played on the last day of South Africa’s T20 League in the year 2025. The match was between Pretoria Capitals and Mumbai Indians Cape Town, in which a tremendous performance was seen from Brewis and Rutherford. Both of them opened their bats in such a manner in the last overs that the victory of Pretoria Capitals was sealed in the match. Brewis and Rutherford hit 6 sixes in 6 consecutive balls. Apart from this, the batting combination between the two was such that Mumbai Indians bowled over the Cape Town bowlers.
The ball had to be brought from outside the field 11 times!
The innings of Brewis and Rutherford were short but explosive. Together, both of them played only 28 balls during the innings of Pretoria Capitals. But, he scored a lot of runs on those 28 balls. He hit so much that 11 times the balls had to be brought from outside the field i.e. the boundary. This means that both of them scored a total of 11 boundaries in their innings, which included 10 sixes.
6 sixes hit in 6 consecutive balls
The biggest thing is that out of the 10 sixes that Brewis and Rutherford together hit in their 28-ball inning, they hit 6 sixes consecutively. Hitting 6 sixes in a row started from the 5th ball of the 18th over of Pretoria Capitals’ innings and continued till the 4th ball of the 19th over.
The start was made by Brewis, who hit 2 sixes on the last two balls of Corbin Bosch, who was bowling the 18th over. Then Sherfane Rutherford, who came to bowl the 19th over, hit 4 sixes one after the other on the first 4 balls of Pretorius. Looking at the scene, it seemed as if a six-hitting competition had broken out between Brewis and Rutherford.
Brewis-Rutherford scored 83 runs in 28 balls
In the match played against Mumbai Indians Cape Town, Dewald Brevis scored 36 runs in 13 balls at a strike rate of 276.92, which included 4 sixes and 1 four. Sherfane Rutherford, on the other hand, played even faster than Brevis. He scored 47 runs in 15 balls at a strike rate of 313.33, which included 6 sixes. That is, both of them together scored 83 runs in just 28 balls with 1 four and 10 sixes.
Became the hero of Pretoria Capitals’ victory
Thanks to this explosive and unbeaten innings of both the batsmen, Pretoria Capitals set a target of 221 runs for MI Cape Town, chasing which they could score only 135 runs and lost the match by 85 runs.
