According to the Delhi government, under the ‘Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana’ (AB PM-JAY), access to health care is continuously increasing in the capital Delhi. Continuous progress is also being made in registration of beneficiaries, providing treatment and settlement of claims across Delhi. According to the latest data, a total of 7,72,129 Ayushman Bharat health cards have been issued in the capital Delhi, which includes 2 lakh 90 thousand 475 cards under ‘Vay Vandana Yojana’ (VVS) and 4 lakh 81 thousand 654 cards under non-VVS category. Through this, senior citizens and eligible families are getting the benefit of health care coverage.
the scheme ‘Ayushman Bharat Health care support is being further strengthened under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana’ (AB PM-JAY), under which citizens are eligible to get cashless health coverage up to Rs 10 lakh.
This includes a coverage of Rs 5 lakh under the AB PM-JAY scheme of the Central Government and an additional health coverage of Rs 5 lakh provided by the Delhi Government. This arrangement ensures strong health protection and widespread access to quality treatment for beneficiaries—including senior citizens.
More than 46 thousand people got treatment facilities
So far, 46 thousand 963 beneficiaries have availed treatment under this scheme, while 34 thousand 715 claims worth Rs 86.22 crore have been settled. This has provided financial security to the beneficiaries and significantly reduced their out-of-pocket expenses on health care.
Under ‘Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana’, providing health services in Delhi is being supported by a strong network of 233 empaneled hospitals, which includes 181 private and 52 government hospitals. This network is providing quality cashless treatment facilities in various medical services.
So, in view of the current heatwave situation, Delhi Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh once again reviewed the preparedness of the Delhi government to deal with heat wave related emergencies.
Review of preparations made for heat wave
He said that Delhi’s health system is fully prepared to deal with all weather conditions, with priority being given to ensuring proper care and public safety. ICU beds, emergency services, special wards, mobile relief units, hospitals, polyclinics and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across Delhi have been kept ready for the heatwave.
The Minister closely reviewed the heatwave preparedness at Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP), where extensive arrangements have been made for the management of Heat Related Illness (HRI). The hospital has reserved four dedicated beds in Casualty for heat-affected patients and 10 special beds in E-ICU for heatwave patients, while a 70-bed disaster ward has also been kept ready to deal with any emergency. Adequate stocks of cooling pads, cold saline and ORS have also been made available to patients suffering from heat stroke and other related problems to ensure timely and effective treatment.
He said that the Health Department of Delhi, under the able leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is continuously working to further strengthen the healthcare infrastructure, increase awareness among the beneficiaries and ensure effective functioning of the welfare schemes being run with the aim of ensuring accessible and inclusive healthcare for all.
