YRF Spy Universe’s first female-lead spy film ‘Alpha’ hits the theaters with big scale, spectacular action and high-octane visuals. The audience had high expectations from this film directed by Shiv Rawail. However, despite the strong technical level of the film, its story, emotional connect and screenplay do not fully live up to the expectations. Starring stars like Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Wagh, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor, the film impresses in many places, but falls short of being a strong spy thriller. Let us know how ‘Alpha’ is.
What is the story of ‘Alpha’?
‘Alpha’ is the story of two female assassins who encounter a mysterious enemy during a dangerous mission. An attempt has been made to add Pakistan angle, patriotism, spy mission and big twists to the story. Although the basic idea of the story is interesting, the screenplay lacks emotional depth. Many incidents seem grand, but the audience is not able to connect with them completely.

How is the performance of the star cast of ‘Alpha’?
Alia Bhatt seems to be working hard in her character, but her casting as an action spy agent does not make a complete impact. Sharvari’s character appears to be limited in scope and she does not get much opportunity to showcase her talent. Bobby Deol creates a distinct identity in the film with his calm but effective villain avatar. Anil Kapoor also does strong acting on the basis of his experience. Hrithik Roshan has a cameo in the film, but it does not leave much of an impact in the story.
How is Shiv Rawail’s direction?
Director Shiv Rawail has tried to make an international spy film on a larger canvas. The action sequences, locations and visual treatment are impressive. But the emotional strength and Indian context that the story needed is not fully developed. In parts, the film’s treatment feels like Western spy films, which weakens the local connection.
How is the music of ‘Alpha’, how is the technical front?
The background score of the film enhances many action sequences and leaves a good impact on the big screen. However, there is no song or music that is remembered long after the movie is over. Music supports the story, but does not give it new heights. If we talk only about the technical side, Alpha is a very strong film. The cinematography is fantastic. The action is filmed extensively. The visual effects and production design are impressive. The editing is balanced for the most part.

Why watch ‘Alpha’?
The film is worth watching for its large-scale stylish action and stellar performances from Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor. Rest if you want, you can wait for it to come on OTT. This film is 1.5 out of 5 stars from our side.
