Indraprastha Gas Limited has reduced the prices.
India’s leading CNG retailer company Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) on Wednesday announced a major reduction in the prices of domestic piped natural gas (PNG) for the consumers of Delhi and NCR for the coming new year. The company has reduced the prices by ₹ 0.70 per standard cubic meter (SCM).
After the deduction the new prices will be as follows. ₹ 47.89 per SCM in Delhi, ₹ 46.70 per SCM in Gurugram and ₹ 47.76 per SCM in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad. IGL operates City Gas Distribution (CGD) network in 30 districts in 11 areas in four states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Government aims to increase PNG connections
The government aims to provide 12.5 crore PNG connections in rural and urban areas by the year 2030. Poor people in India have limited access to clean cooking gas. Even today many people use coal, wood and cow dung cakes for cooking. This is not only harmful for the cooks, but is also harmful for the environment. Till a few years ago, LPG cylinders were limited only to urban and semi-urban areas, and that too to people from better income groups.
Benefits of PNG connection
Piped gas is convenient because there is no need to handle, fill and change the cylinder. It is also more economical, because it reduces transportation costs and is also safer. In this, gas supply is available continuously and there is no hassle of running out of gas. Providing PNG connections is part of the development of the city gas distribution network. This work is done by authorized entities as per the targets and techno-commercial feasibility of the Minimum Work Program (MWP) set by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).
