According to government information, following the instructions of CM Yogi, FSDA teams simultaneously raided more than 332 bulk drug centers in 52 districts of the state. During this period, cases were registered against 161 firms and their operators under serious sections of BNS and NDPS Act. The investigation also revealed that illegal diversion and black marketing of codeine syrup was going on openly in 36 districts.
As the investigation progressed, the roots of this racket spread beyond Uttar Pradesh. FSDA teams reached Jharkhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi. Investigation revealed that super stockists of Delhi and Ranchi, in collaboration with some identified wholesalers of UP, were running an illegal parallel supply chain of codeine cough syrup and NDPS category medicines.
