Three tons help Australia break multiple records in 3rd ODI against South Africa

New Delhi: Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green smashed centuries as Australia posted a massive target of 432 runs for South Africa in the 3rd ODI at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay on Sunday, August 24.

Head and Marsh laid the foundation with commanding tons at the top, forging a 250-run partnership for the first wicket. Head scored 142 runs off 103 balls with the help of 17 boundaries and five maximums, while Marsh amassed 100 runs off 106 balls.

Head was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj, and Marsh was removed by Senuran Muthusamy. Green and Carey continued the hitting after that, with the all-rounder notching up his century in 47 balls at no.3 as the hosts dominated all 50 overs while South African bowlers were left searching for wickets.

Three tons in the top 3 as Australia equal world record

The Aussies produced only the second instance across 4897 ODIs in history of the format, where all the top-order batters scored a century in an innings. South Africa achieved this milestone against the West Indies in 2015, when openers Hashim Amla (153*) and Rilee Rossouw (128) notched up centuries before AB de Villiers punished the West Indies bowlers with his 149-run knock.
