Naagin 7 has finally returned to television screens, introducing a new and a fresh mythological conflict. In an exclusive chat with midday, lead actor Namik Paul opened up about his character Aryamann, the show’s new theme, and how dancing helped him grow as an artist.
Speaking about his role, Namik said his character represents “the more human side” of the story, at least in the beginning. “Till now, very small supernatural things have happened which Aryamann hasn’t noticed yet. He has not entered the full-blown Naaginverse,” he explained. Aryamann is a journalist who runs his own news channel and carries emotional baggage. “He has some pain in his life, and that has made him a bit bitter. He drinks a lot and can be very sarcastic and sharp when he’s not happy. But otherwise, he loves his family and he’s very good at his work.”
Namik Paul gets candid about the theme
On what makes different from previous seasons, Namik pointed to the new theme, Mahakumbh, and a never-seen-before antagonist. “I think the purpose of Naagin is different. The threat is very different. Dragon, we’ve all seen it in the marketing, it’s the first time we’re seeing a dragon. And Naagin going against the dragon, the challenges that brings, why the dragon is here and how it connects to Naagin’s story… that’s the main draw,” he said, adding that human characters will also play a key role in the Naagin’s journey.
Despite being part of a supernatural franchise, Namik shared that his experience so far has felt surprisingly grounded. “If you ask me, it has not felt like a supernatural show. I’m like a normal, everyday character. I have my office scenes, family scenes and scenes with Purvi, who is the Naagin,” he said. He also revealed that returning to work after long breaks was a big motivator. “Working with ,with Colors, and with the right people, those things matter. At this point, just working is so much fun.”
Namik Paul reacts to learning dance over the years
Apart from acting, Namik spoke candidly about dancing, something he once feared. “Dancing was a terror in my life when I started acting,” he admitted. The idea of freestyling made him anxious, especially because of his height. “Whenever someone said music will be played and you have to freestyle, my hands and feet would go cold.” Over time, however, dancing became a way to hold himself accountable. “Sometimes you have to say, ‘No, I’m going to do this. I’m going to post it.’ It makes you less lazy and more comfortable with your body.”
Looking ahead, Namik teased what audiences can expect from his character. “In the beginning, you’ll see someone witty but very sharp and sarcastic. He may come off as rude, but that’s because of the trauma he’s carrying.” As the story unfolds, viewers will witness his evolving dynamic with the Naagin. “You’ll see more of the romance or anti-romance, because she does have some serious gripes with him. It’s Naagin, so there’s mystery, thrill and a lot of twists.”
Signing off, Namik had a message for fans: “New Year is coming, but four days before that, Naagin is coming. It’s been a bit of a wait, we were supposed to go on air in October, then November, and now finally December. I hope you guys love it.”
