Where does the sun rise first?
If you want to see the first sunrise in the country in the new year 2026 with the sun’s rays reaching the earth, then you will have to go to Dong village. This village is in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, the north-eastern state of India. This is a very special place for tourists, because the natural views are also amazing.
Why does sunrise happen first?
The first rays of the sun fall on the earth in Dong village. The reason behind this is the geographical location here. The sun rises from the east and Dong falls in the easternmost part of the country (also known as the easternmost point of India) and is located at a high altitude. For this reason, sunrise here occurs about one to one and a quarter hours earlier than other places, so if you want to see the sunrise here, you will have to wake up before 4 o’clock, because sunrise occurs between 4:30 to 5:30 depending on the weather.
How can you reach here?
If you have reached Dong village from Delhi or anywhere else, then you will have to reach Assam (Guwahati or Dibrugarh) by flight. It falls near Anjaw district (where Dong village is) of Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from this, you can go to Dibrugarh (DBRG) by train or take a train to Tinsukia (TSK). From here you will have to travel by road to Teju, the headquarters of Anjaw district, for which you can take a bus or taxi. Next to this is Walong, from here you will trek for some time and reach Dong where you can see the first sunrise of 2026. Going here by trekking will also be a great experience for you.
