Washington: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that US President Donald Trump has told him about a 20-point peace proposal for Ukraine. Trump had talked to Russian President Vladimir Putin on this proposal. Zelensky said these things after meeting Trump at the US President’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday, December 28. There the two leaders discussed possible ways to end the war. The conflict, which began with Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, is now nearing its four-year anniversary.
Zelensky asked for 50 years guarantee
Zelensky said- He emphasized on long-term security guarantees for the next 50 years. He also made it clear that any kind of talks with Russia would be possible only when President Trump and European leaders reach a consensus on formal documents. Meanwhile, Trump said on Sunday that he had a “wonderful” meeting with Putin and a “wonderful” phone call that lasted more than two hours. This war is going to complete four years on 24th February. Zelensky was invited by Trump to his private club. This was part of the US President’s efforts to find a negotiated solution to end the fighting between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelensky said- Ukraine wants the national security advisors of Ukraine, America and Europe to meet in the coming days. Ukraine hopes that the moment the peace plan is formally signed, security guarantees will also be provided. Ukraine, America, Russia and Europe should sign the peace plan. A technical group may be required to implement this. Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready for all methods of dialogue with Russia and proposed that a referendum be held in Ukraine on the peace plan. Zelensky said a ceasefire of at least 60 days would be needed. He also said that information on monitoring the ceasefire would be stated in the security guarantee. He also said that creating a free economic zone in the Donbass region will also be discussed.
