Paush Purnima 2026: Paush month is considered very special from religious point of view. This time is auspicious for chanting, penance, spiritual practice and virtuous deeds. The full moon that falls in the month of Paush is called Paush Purnima. Paush Purnima is one of the special and important dates of the year. The tradition of bathing in holy rivers on this day has been going on for centuries. By bathing, donating and fasting on this day, one gets virtuous results.
According to Hindu beliefs, good deeds done on this day bring happiness, peace and prosperity in life. Doing wrong things on this day leads to difficulties and financial problems. Work gets spoiled while being completed, hence these mistakes should not be made even by mistake on this day.

The full moon date of Paush month is starting on 02 January 2026 at 06:53 pm. This date will end on January 03, 2026 at 03:32 pm. Since Purnima Tithi will be present at the time of sunrise on 3 January, Paush Purnima will be celebrated on Saturday, 3 January 2026.
Do not make these mistakes on the day of Paush Purnima
don’t sleep until after sunrise
On the day of Paush Purnima, wake up early in the morning and take bath in holy rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada. If bathing in Ganga is not possible then mix Ganga water in the water at home and take bath, but do not sleep till after sunrise on this day. Because doing so is not auspicious. Doing this may weaken your luck. The blessings of Gods and Goddesses may go away.
don’t abuse anyone
This day is considered extremely auspicious for meditation, chanting and self-improvement, hence do not quarrel with anyone on this day. Do not abuse anyone. Doing this increases tension in the house. Mother Lakshmi may get angry.
Do not consume Tamasic things
A fast is observed on this day, if you cannot keep the fast, then do not consume tamasic things even by mistake. Avoid consumption of non-vegetarian food and alcohol. Doing this has a negative impact on the planets.
