What changed in the year 2025?
The year 2025 was not just a year of changing dates, but it became the year when laws and policies directly affected the everyday financial decisions of common people. Be it the dream of buying a house, division of family property, children’s foreign education or the habit of investing money on online gaming. Big changes have been seen on every front, whose direct impact can be clearly seen on the life of the common man in the coming times.
By the end of the year 2025, there was a major and relief change in the laws related to succession. Now in big cities like Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, it is no longer necessary to get probate done to get property on the basis of will. Its direct advantage is that in cases where there is no dispute over the will, transfer of property can be done quickly and at low cost. Earlier, the long court process, fees and waiting used to become a big problem for the people. However, experts also believe that a will without probate can cause legal disputes in the future, if there are differences in the family, then more cases of this can come to the fore.
Grandchildren have no right on grandfather’s property
Apart from this, a big decision was also taken regarding the property on the mother’s side, the size of the mother means the property of the children’s maternal uncle. In the year 2025, an important decision of the Bombay High Court cleared up a long standing confusion. The court said that grandchildren have no birthright on their maternal grandfather’s property. This decision clarifies the interpretation of Hindu succession law. There was already a law for daughters to have equal rights in their father’s property, but the situation was not clear regarding the rights of daughters’ children.
The dream of studying abroad became expensive
In 2025, the trend of foreign studies suddenly slowed down. In popular countries like America, Britain, Canada and Australia, education has now become more expensive, uncertain and complex than before. Strict visa rules, less job options after studies, increasing cost of living and falling rupee, all these have forced the students to think. The result was that many students chose relatively cheaper and stable options such as Germany, France and Ireland.
Strict ban on online gambling
The picture changed completely as soon as the law related to online gaming came into force in August 2025. The apps on which money was played were banned. The government believed that crores of people have suffered huge financial losses through these games. Under the new law, not only were such games banned, but their advertisements and digital payments were also stopped. After this, many gaming companies changed their models and started adopting free-to-play or subscription based games.
Home loan is cheap, big relief in EMI
2025 brought relief for home loan borrowers. RBI made a big cut in the repo rate throughout the year, due to which banks also reduced the interest rates. The result was that the total interest cost of those who had earlier taken loans at expensive rates reduced by lakhs of rupees. Banks usually keep the EMI almost the same but reduce the loan tenure, which gives big benefits in the long term.
