Patiala: There was a sensation in Patiala district of Punjab on Tuesday morning when the body of a young woman was found inside a big blue drum near the DCW overbridge in the Urban Estate area. This shocking incident happened near a garbage dump near the bridge. When the local people saw this strangely sealed drum on the roadside, they became suspicious, after which they informed the police. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the spot and opened the drum in the presence of officials. The body of a girl was found inside the drum.

injury marks on dead body
According to police officials, the age of the girl seems to be between 20 to 22 years. Initial investigation revealed mild injury marks on his face, while blood stains were also found on one of his hands. The drum was blue in color and was tightly closed with a red lid. Police officials said that the condition in which the body was found suggests that it was deliberately dumped here. Soon after the body was found, forensic experts were called to the spot to collect evidence from the area. The body was later sent to the mortuary of Government Rajindra Hospital for further investigation and identification.
Girl identified through tattoo
During investigation, police found two tattoos on the girl’s hands. On one hand, “Neha” was written in English, while on the other hand there was a heart-shaped tattoo. On this matter, Patiala Police Officer Gurpreet Singh said that the police had received information in the morning about a dead body in a drum near the DCW flyover. He said that after examining the tattoos and other details, the police identified the victim as 20-22-year-old Neha. According to the police, Neha was the daughter of Sant Lal. His family is originally from Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, but currently lives in Punjabi Bagh area of Patiala.
The family had already filed a missing report
Police said that Neha was missing for the last few days. His family had already filed a missing complaint with the police. After the body was identified, officials contacted the family and informed them about the incident. Now the legal formalities are being completed with the help of the victim’s relatives. Investigators are now trying to find out how Neha died and who is responsible for dumping her body in a drum.
Police are examining CCTV footage
Police teams have started examining CCTV camera footage of the roads and areas around the flyover to identify the movement of the drum and the people involved. Officials believe that the drum might have been brought to the place in a vehicle early in the morning, when there is less crowd in the area. The real cause of death will be known only after the postmortem report comes. Police said that investigation is being done from all angles and further action will be taken on the basis of forensic report and evidence recovered from the spot.
