The trainee surgeon, accused of secretly recording video in hospitals toilets, was released on bail on Friday. In the Documents of the Supreme Court of Victoria State, police have alleged that 28 -year -old Ryan Cho may be accused of about 500 allegations, which since 2021 are related to 4,500 intimate videos recorded secretly from phone to the staff toilets in three hospitals in Melbourne.
Justice James Elliott ruled that the junior doctor should be released on the condition that he stayed with his parents, who came to Melbourne from Singapore in the hope of his son’s release. His parents will have to bail 50000 Australian dollars (US $ 32000). On the other hand, the prosecutor argued that Cho had tried to escape after the allegations were made. He had no strong connection with Australia after being suspended from the job. Hamil said that Cho had become a permanent resident of Australia in April, but if he was convicted and sentenced to jail for 12 months or more, he would have to face exile. The judge said that Cho had submitted his Singapore passport and had no criminal role in leaving Australia.
Police allege that Cho recorded intimate pictures of at least 460 women. The judge said that Cho has no charge of broadcasting those photographs. Cho was arrested in July after receiving the phone recording from inside a lattice bag in the toilet of Austin Hospital. Police allege that he also recorded in the toilets of Peter McCallum Cancer Center and Royal Melbourne Hospital. On the other hand, Cho’s lawyer Julian McMahon dismissed the apprehension of the prosecutors that Cho could interfere in the work of witnesses after the release. McMahon said that there is a possibility of hundreds of witnesses for such crimes. He said that it is a belief that if my client is involved in the criminal act of interfering in the work of witnesses, it will not affect the result of the case.
