electric car
The West Asia crisis has highlighted the challenge of India’s dependence on energy imports. In such a situation, to strengthen energy security, it has become very important to rapidly adopt electric vehicles in the country and reduce dependence on China in terms of important components. Prime Minister Modi’s advisor Tarun Kapoor himself has said this.
Addressing a conference organized by industry body ASSOCHAM on the topic of making India an electric transportation hub for India, he said that along with promoting electric vehicles, there is also a need to reduce dependence on China for important components and promote local manufacturing.
Adoption of electric vehicles is the most important task
According to Tarun Kapoor, this has become even more relevant after the West Asia crisis. I would say that now the adoption of electric vehicles has become the most essential task for our country, which we all have to complete together. He said that if India’s crude oil imports reduce, it will strengthen the economy and the rupee will also improve. On the condition of the stock markets during the crisis, he said, in terms of energy, we have become so sensitive to external conditions that it is now a matter of serious concern for all of us. So now it has become a mission for all of us.
5% reduction will make a big difference
Kapoor said that it is not possible to completely eliminate the use of petroleum, but reducing it to some extent can also bring a big change. He said, even just five percent reduction in petroleum consumption can make a big difference and this is possible only if we rapidly move towards electric vehicles. He said that electric vehicles have been gradually adopted in India. Good progress has been made in the field of two-wheelers and three-wheelers, but there is still a long way to go in the field of four-wheelers. Petrol is consumed the most in two-wheelers. Two-wheelers consume about 60 percent of the total petrol used in the country. Therefore, it is very important to bring about a rapid transition towards electric vehicles in this category.
Delhi government’s decision is in the right direction
He said that the recently announced Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy is the right step in this direction. Emphasizing on self-reliance, Kapoor said, we have to see how our dependence on China can be reduced. He said that it is not possible for India to completely eliminate imports, but at least there should be domestic production of critical components and essential minerals, so that in future if China again bans the export of these items, the industry is not affected. He also assured the industry of every possible support from the government to achieve the goal of self-reliance. Emphasizing the need for rapid adoption of electric vehicles, Kapoor said that the government will adopt a swift and target-based strategy in this direction. In the next five years, the presence of electric vehicles on the roads of the country should be so high that the whole world can see that there has been a big change in this sector in India.
