The state government has prepared SOP regarding stray dogs and pets in Kolkata, West Bengal. Soon instructions will be sent to all the municipalities of the state. The State Urban Development Department has prepared this SOP for the security of properties. Where and when can pets be given to the police station? This has also been mentioned in the SOP. According to the information, in case of providing food to pets, the Municipal Corporation officials will identify feeding places in all the areas. Which will be away from children’s play area.
In the SOP prepared by government officials, there will be a fixed time limit for those feeding pets. Food can be served before 7 am and after 7 pm. Two hours will be allotted for providing food to pets and dogs. People who feed dogs have also been advised to clean the area. It was also said that food should not be served to dogs and pets outside the designated area.
What can you feed dogs?
No one can stop or molest those who feed street dogs. The SOP also gives advice as to what food should be fed to the dogs. Chocolate, milky foods, onion-garlic, sweet or snack foods, alcohol are also prohibited.
Instructions to increase awareness
It has also been informed that all the municipalities should run a campaign to increase awareness among the people about this SOP. Incidentally, a person was given death threats for giving food to pets in Jaynagar area of South 24 Parganas district. A case was filed in the High Court. The municipality informed about this SOP in the bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh today.
