Taj Mahal: A Wonder of the World in Peril

Everyone must have heard the name of Red Fort situated in Delhi. The Prime Minister of the country hoists the national flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort every year on Independence Day. The Red Fort was also built by the Mughal ruler Shahjahan. Shah Jahan began construction of the Red Fort on 29 April 1638 to shift his capital from Agra to Delhi, which was completed in 1648. It took a total of 10 years to complete the Red Fort.

Humayun’s Fort located in the country’s capital Delhi is one of the philosophical places here. Every year a large number of tourists come here to see this beautiful historical monument. This fort was built by Humayun’s wife Maharani Bega Begum. The construction of this fort started in 1558 and was completed in 1571. Thus, it took 14 years to build this fort.

Qutub Minar in Delhi is one of the major sites of the Mughal period. The construction of this very beautiful and historical building was started by Mughal ruler Qutubuddin Aibak in 1199. However, he died during this period, after which the construction of the fort was stopped midway. It was later completed by his son-in-law Iltutmish in 1920 and thus Qutub Minar took about 21 years to complete.

On hearing the name of Pink City Jaipur, the first thing that comes to mind is Hawa Mahal. Even today, a large number of people come to Jaipur to see this beautiful palace made of pink and red sandstone. This palace was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of Jaipur. It took about 10 years to build this unique palace with 953 windows.
