Actually, Jhalawar is the city of Diwan Rajput Jhala Zalim Singh. Before Raja Jhala Zalim Singh settled here, the name of this place was Brijnagar. This is the year 1791. To escape from the Marathas, Jhala Zalim Singh, the Rajput Diwan of Kota State, established a military cantonment here amidst dense forests named ‘Chawani Ummedpura’. Actually, this cantonment was built to protect Jhalawar from Marathas.
But later Jhalawar surrounded by dense forests became the favorite place of Raja Jhala Zalim Singh. He often came here for hunting and he liked the place so much that he decided to establish a city here. ‘Jhalawar’, known for its rich natural wealth, is very beautiful. This place is completely different from other cities of Rajasthan. The city is completely endowed with abundant water resources. Orange orchards add to the beauty of Jhalawar.
