Will Gautam Gambhir continue to be the coach of the Indian team in Test cricket in the future? This question is being raised continuously and it has even been claimed that an official of the Board of Control for Cricket in India even talked to VVS Laxman about this. This one report has again fueled speculation in Indian cricket, due to which BCCI has now had to come forward and clarify the situation. Board Secretary Devajit Saikia has denied the news of making Laxman the coach in place of Gambhir.
Recently, in the report of news agency PTI, it was claimed that BCCI had contacted Laxman after the home Test series defeat against South Africa. According to the report, a board official had informally discussed with Laxman about the coaching of the Test team. But Laxman refused this and preferred to take charge of the Center of Excellence.
This report once again gave rise to rumors and apprehensions regarding Gambhir’s future in Indian cricket. At such a time, board boss Devajit Saikia has tried to put an end to these speculations by giving an official statement. In a statement, Saikia rejected the claims of making Laxman the coach and said, “Whatever reports are coming are wrong and are mere speculations. These reports have also come in renowned media but there is no truth in such claims. BCCI completely refutes these reports and no such step has been taken.”
Now, with the statement of the top BCCI official, Gambhir’s future seems certain that he will remain the coach of Team India in all three formats. But will the same situation continue in the next few months? Let us tell you that Gambhir was signed on a 3-year contract and his tenure will last till the World Cup 2027. But meanwhile, Team India also has to play the T20 World Cup and after that there is also a Test series. In such a situation, the situation may change before the ODI World Cup.
