Madhya Pradesh: 12 Houses Set On Fire Over Caste-Based Dispute In Guna District

Caste-related violence occurred in Panheti village in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh’s Fatehgarh police station on Tuesday. The Bhil community members reportedly burned down 12 houses belonging to the Banjara community.
The assault occurred while the majority of villagers were busy in fields nearby, resulting in no loss of life but causing considerable damage to property. Upon receiving word of the incident, law enforcement and administrative authorities quickly arrived to manage the situation.
The conflict originates from a historic land disagreement between the Bhil and Banjara groups regarding forest land in Panheti village, Bamori tehsil. Tensions escalated during the Diwali celebrations as clashes erupted between members of the two communities, resulting in serious injuries to Galsingh Bhil and Kallu Banjara.
Galsingh Bhil passed away on Monday night in Indore while receiving medical treatment for his injuries. In what appears to be revenge, the Bhil community members carried out a morning attack on Tuesday, causing extensive damage.
A significant police presence has been guaranteed to uphold law and order in the village. Gwalior IG Arvind Saxena confirmed that the situation is currently managed, with the Superintendent of Police and his team present at the location to monitor the situation. A FIR has been lodged, and inquiries are being conducted to pinpoint and prosecute the individuals accountable for the arson and violence.
The Banjara community’s impacted families are requesting immediate government assistance. Local residents are demanding prompt compensation, relief measures, and rehabilitation for those who have lost their homes and means of living.
