Bollywood’s legendary actor Sunny Deol dominated the box office in 2023 with the release of Gadar 2. The film became an instant blockbuster, earning immense love from audiences.
Directed by Anil Sharma and written by Shaktimaan Talwar, this period action drama captivated viewers with its powerful storyline. It’s important to note that Gadar 2 is a sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, where Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma reprise their roles from the previous movie. According to news reports, the film was made on a budget of Rs 60 crore and went on to earn over Rs 691.08 crore at the box office. Today, we’re going to share a fascinating detail about Sunny Deol’s film Gadar 2 that will surely surprise you. The film has a unique connection to Amitabh Bachchan’s film. Curious about what this connection is? Let us explain in detail.
Gadar 2 has a special connection to Amitabh Bachchan’s 20 year old film
Gadar 2 became the fifth highest-grossing film of 2023. However, what might surprise you is the special connection this film shares with Amitabh Bachchan’s 2004 movie Deewar. In fact, Deewar’s storyline was incorporated into Gadar 2.
In Deewar, Indian Army Major Ranveer Kaul played by Amitabh Bachchan, and his 30 companions are captured in Pakistan and kept under brutal conditions for 33 years (since the 1971 India-Pakistan war). Kaul repeatedly attempts to escape with his fellow prisoners but is always caught.
Meanwhile, one of Kaul’s companions successfully escapes, and through him, Kaul’s wife and son played by Akshaye Khanna learn that he is still alive. Despite Akshay Khanna’s efforts, the Indian Army refuses to help, forcing him to decide to go to Pakistan alone. In Gadar 2, the story takes place after the 1971 India-Pakistan war, with Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) going missing. His wife Sakina (Ameesha Patel) and son Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma) discover that Tara is trapped in Pakistan.
In a similar turn of events, Tara’s wife and son try everything they can, but when nothing works, Tara’s son decides to travel to Pakistan alone to bring him back to India. While Deewar failed at the box office, Sunny Deol managed to turn the same storyline into a blockbuster with Gadar 2, accomplishing what Amitabh Bachchan’s character couldn’t.
