Modi government on Monday announced the launch of PAN 2.0 project worth Rs 1,435 crore. Its objective is to make Permanent Account Number (PAN) a common business identifier for all digital systems of government agencies. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Income Tax Department’s PAN 2.0 project with a financial outlay of Rs 1,435 crore.

Giving information about this decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this project enables technology driven transformation of the Taxpayer Registration Service. It aims to provide ease of access and quick delivery of service with better quality. According to an official statement, the PAN 2.0 project will enable the use of PAN as a common identifier for all digital systems of government agencies in line with the government’s vision of a Digital India.
78 crore PANs have been issued
This project is an e-Governance project to reengineer the business processes of Taxpayer Registration Service through technology driven transformation of PAN/TAN services for better digital experience of taxpayers. According to the statement, this will be an upgraded version of the existing PAN/TAN 1.0 framework which will also integrate PAN verification service with core and non-core PAN/TAN activities. At present approximately 78 crore PANs have been issued. Of these, 98 percent PANs have been issued at the individual level.
These schemes also got green signal
The Union Cabinet on Monday approved the continuation of NITI Aayog’s flagship initiative Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) till March 31, 2028. In this, the scope of work has been increased and it has been approved with a total budget of Rs 2,750 crore. According to an official statement, AIM 2.0 is a step towards a developed India. It aims to enhance and strengthen India’s vibrant innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The statement said that the second phase of Atal Innovation Mission with the achievements of AIM 1.0 like Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) and Atal Incubation Center (AIC) marks a qualitative change in the vision of the Mission. It said that while the first phase of the Atal Innovation Mission was to create such an innovation infrastructure that would strengthen the then nascent environment of the country, the second phase included new measures to fill the gaps in the environment. , it can be completed. This includes new initiatives designed to build on successes through central and state governments, industry, education and the community.
