Ever since Gautam Gambhir became the head coach of Team India, he has been in the news continuously for both right and wrong reasons. One and a half years ago, he was greatly celebrated when he was appointed the head coach of Team India. But during his tenure, the performance of Team India has been full of ups and downs and there has been a significant change in the opinion regarding Gambhir. Especially after the condition of Team India in the Test format, there is a demand for his removal and now a report has revealed that BCCI was also thinking of doing so but it could not get success in it.

Team India recently faced a crushing defeat of 0-2 at the hands of South Africa in its home Test series. This was the second time in the last one year that the Indian team had to face a clean sweep in a Test series at home. due to this Serious The voice against became louder. Although BCCI officials publicly supported the coach and refused to remove him, some efforts were being made internally.

Laxman’s decision saved Gambhir’s job?

A report by news agency PTI has made a sensational revelation that BCCI had made such an attempt after the series defeat against South Africa. According to the report, an important person associated with the board had informally discussed with veteran batsman VVS Laxman about taking the responsibility of the Test team. Even before appointing Gambhir as the coach, BCCI wanted to appoint Laxman as the coach. But like last time, this time too Laxman refused and asked to remain associated with the ‘Centre of Excellence’.

So will Gautam Gambhir remain the coach?

If Laxman had said yes, would Gambhir have been immediately removed and made the coach of the Test team? This is not clear because this option has also gone out of the hands of the board and since there is no other contender, Gambhir’s job seems to be safe at the moment. However, the report also claims that if Team India fails in the T20 World Cup 2026, then Gambhir’s contract can be reconsidered, which under normal circumstances will last till the World Cup 2027.

However, quoting BCCI sources, it has also been said that there is enough support for Gambhir within the board and his job can remain even if he wins the T20 World Cup or reaches the final. But at present the situation is not clear regarding whether he will handle the Test team also. Anyway, Team India now has to play the next Test series directly in August 2026. In such a situation, till then BCCI has enough time to take any decision in favor or against Gambhir.
