Things needed to make rose bonsai

  • a mature rose plant
  • Shallow bonsai pot (with drainage holes)
  • Garden Soil, Sand and Vermi Compost
  • pruning shears
  • aluminum or copper wire

Step-1 Selection of plant

To make bonsai, you need a mature rose plant. If you want, you can make it from small plants also, but it takes many years. So choose a big rose plant.

Step 2: Prepare the Soil

Mix equal amounts of garden soil, sand and vermicompost. This mixture prevents water from stagnating for too long, so that the roots do not rot.

Step-3 Preparing the plant

First of all, take out the rose plant from the pot and gently remove the soil from the roots. Take care not to damage its main root. After cleaning the root, you wash it. Here you will find heavy rooted roses. Which will have to be cut. You cut the roots gently from below.

Step-4 Remove the branches also

Cut off long branches and unnecessary leaves from the plant. This will help in giving the plant a bonsai shape and new growth will remain under control.

Step-5 Transfer to pot

Now plant the rose in a shallow bonsai pot, spreading the roots. Take out the part of the stem which was inside the soil earlier and fill it with soil while spreading the roots.

Step 6: Give shape with wiring

Lightly wrap the wire around the branches of the plant and bend it in the desired direction. Keep in mind that the wire should not be too tight, otherwise the branch may get damaged.

Step 7: Place in place

Keep the rose bonsai in a place where it gets 4–6 hours of sunlight every day. Water only when the soil becomes dry, avoid excess water. Keep pruning from time to time. Give liquid fertilizer only once a month. If insects or fungus are seen, treat them immediately. The process of making bonsai does not take one or two months, it takes many years. It has to be taken out of the pot again and again and the roots are cut. Therefore it requires patience.
