JPC Chairman links reforms with ‘developed India’

Earlier in May, speaking to ANI during committee meetings in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, PP Choudhary had said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of holding simultaneous elections is linked to the goal of creating a “developed India”. He said, “See, in the meetings held in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad in the last three days on ‘One Country, One Election’, Prime Minister Modi’s vision of holding Lok Sabha and Assembly elections simultaneously is to create a developed India. He further said that frequent elections have a negative impact on many sectors including education, health, governance and industrial production. “The goal is to ensure that children’s education goes smoothly without any interruption, there are no interruptions in medical and health systems, there are no interruptions in production, and there are no interruptions in governance,” he said.

Economic and historical aspects

Highlighting the economic aspect, Chaudhary claimed that holding simultaneous elections could save the country’s economy more than Rs 7 lakh crore. He also said that simultaneous elections were common in India till 1967, after which due to the dissolution of assemblies and imposition of President’s rule during the Congress governments, elections for Lok Sabha and State Assembly started being held separately.
