Vidarbha’s Dhruv Shorey scripts history in Vijay Hazare Trophy, equals record for most consecutive List A centuries

New Delhi: Vidarbha batter Dhruv Shorey scripted a List A cricket milestone during his team’s Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 match on Friday. In the VHT match in Rajkot, Shorey equaled N. Jagadeesan’s record for the most consecutive hundreds in List A cricket after smashing an unbeaten 109 off 77 balls against Hyderabad.

Put into bat first by Hyderabad, Shorey’s blistering knock helped the side pile on a mammoth score of 365 for 5 on the board in the stipulated 50 overs. His sensational knock included nine boundaries and six maximums as he set the Rajkot cricket stadium on fire with his amazing stroke play. Coming into bat at number three position after opening batters Aman Mokhade and Yash Rathod had added 148 runs for the first wicket, Shorey continued from where they had left.

Shorey smashes 8th List A ton

This landmark hundred was Shorey’s eighth century in List A cricket and his fifth successive, which put him in level with former CSK player Narayan Jagadeesan. Jagadeesan has scripted the feat during the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. That season included a gigantic score of 277 against Arunachal Pradesh, which happens to be the highest individual score in the history of List A cricket.

Shorey has been in a terrific form in the ongoing VHT which he has carried on from the last 2024-25 season. The batter smashed centuries in the quarterfinal, semifinal and the final clash helping Vidarbha finish as runners-up in the edition. The other batter who was major contributor in the team’s campaign last season was forgotten Indian star Karun Nair.

At the time of filing this report, Hyderabad had scored 214 for 5, needing 152 more runs in 66 balls to win the encounter. Shorey started the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy season with a score of 136 off 125 balls, but his knock did not result in a win as Bengal chased down 383 to secure a three-wicket victory.
