West Bengal Minister Indranil Khan has made serious allegations against TMC. He said that the public was cheated by presenting Ayurvedic doctors as experts in medical camps and making the interns senior doctors by threatening them.
Kolkata (West Bengal) [भारत]July 1 (ANI): West Bengal Minister Indranil Khan on Wednesday made serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress (TMC). He accused the party of fraud and deceit in organizing medical camps, claiming that interns were allegedly forced to work as senior doctors under an ‘intimidating culture’ during Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s tenure as the state health minister and later as chief minister.
Expert told Ayurvedic doctor
Speaking to ANI, Khan claimed that the public was misled by presenting Ayurvedic doctors as experts in allopathic medical camps. Khan said, “TMC stands for scam, fraud and deception. An Ayurvedic doctor is expected to treat patients as per Ayurveda, i.e. naturally. But imagine if you are referred to as a cardiologist in an allopathic camp, and you find an Ayurvedic doctor sitting there in his place.”
‘Culture of intimidation’ in medical colleges
The minister further alleged that a ‘culture of intimidation’ existed in medical colleges of West Bengal during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure as health minister and later chief minister, and this extended to the functioning of medical camps. He alleged, “When Mamata Banerjee was the Health Minister and later the Chief Minister, a ‘culture of intimidation’ was prevalent, a culture that spread across all medical colleges. Interns do not have the right to practice independently; their role is to observe and learn under the supervision of senior doctors. Yet, they were forced to pose as senior doctors in Abhishek Banerjee’s camps… This in itself is a fraud.”
Direct target on Abhishek and Mamata Banerjee
Khan also accused TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee of carrying out the alleged fraud with the support of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He said, “Abhishek Banerjee masterminded this fraud with the support of Mamata Banerjee, using the culture of intimidation to force people to act this way. But the days of fear are over; the days of trust have come. As the culture of intimidation ends with the medical colleges and hospitals of West Bengal, those who have committed mistakes or cheated the public will be held accountable.” (ANI)
