The full moon date of Pausha month will start on 02 January 2026 at 06:53 pm. This date will end on January 03, 2026 at 03:32 pm. Since Purnima Tithi will be present at the time of sunrise on 03 January, Paush Purnima will be celebrated on 3 January 2026, Saturday.

What to do on Paush Purnima? (Paush Purnima 2026 Do’s)

  • On Paush Purnima, one should take bath in a holy river during Brahma Muhurta. If it is not possible to go to a river and take bath, then one should take bath at home by mixing Ganga water in the bath water.
  • In the morning, one should put water, red flowers and Akshat in a copper pot and offer Arghya to the Sun God. Then Arghya should be offered to the moon at night.
  • The story of Satyanarayan should be heard on Paush Purnima.
  • The needy should donate sesame seeds, jaggery, blankets or warm clothes.
  • Goddess Lakshmi should be worshiped at night. They should be offered white sweets and kheer.

What not to do on Paush Purnima? (Paush Purnima 2026 Don’ts)

  • Tamasic food should not be consumed on Paush Purnima.
  • One should not sleep late on this day.
  • On this day, one should not insult the elders of the house or any helpless person. Anger should be avoided.
  • Basil leaves should not be plucked on the full moon day.
  • Money transactions should not be done on this day.
