Actress Soha Ali Khan recently opened up in an exclusive conversation about her family’s inspiring journey, her trailblazing mother Sharmila Tagore, her father Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s cricket career, and the lessons she has drawn from women like her mother.
From reflecting on her mother’s work ethic to addressing stereotypes around marriage and motherhood in the film industry, Soha spoke candidly about her personal experiences, struggles, and inspirations.
Unfiltered Soha!
Soha recalled how her mother shouldered responsibilities early on. “She was the eldest of three sisters and the breadwinner for a very long time. Even after marriage, she was the one earning an income, while my father had inherited wealth and played cricket, but there was no money in cricket back then,” she told Zoom.
Praising Sharmila’s strength, Soha added, “I really respect her work ethic. She is blunt about what she feels, and while that may be a bitter pill sometimes, it always comes from a place of love and gives you a reality check.”
On sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor, Soha admired her authenticity, saying, “She is such a huge superstar, yet so comfortable in her own skin. What she chooses to share is real and authentic, and I respect that in today’s hyper-filtered world.”
Speaking about balancing motherhood and career, Soha reflected on the realities many working women face after embracing parenthood. The actress added, “Your body goes through a lot, and parenting takes time, as it should. But it does mean sometimes missing out on work or on your child’s milestones. It’s a constant tussle. I think we need more conversations about these struggles, not just the successes.”
Talking about her podcast, All About Her, Soha revealed how she curated her guests. “I chose the subjects first-nutrition, oncology, epilepsy, finance-and then made a wish list. I called people and said, ‘Please give me your time, there’s no money but it will be a good conversation.’ Everyone was very supportive, and most of them said yes,” said Soha.
