Tariq Rehman can become an obstacle in the path of Jamaat-e-Islami
Tariq Rehman’s return from London comes as his BNP party is gaining ground after last year’s student-led rebellion ousted Khaleda Zia family’s arch foe and longtime Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power. A December survey by the US-based International Republican Institute shows that the BNP is currently on track to win the most parliamentary seats. BNP is the party which can become an obstacle in the path of Jamaat-e-Islami. At the same time, Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League has been barred from contesting the elections.
