If you receive a notification from CPC that your refund has failed, you will need to submit a Refund Reissue Request. This process is completely online and can be done easily.
How to request ITR refund re-issue?
- First of all go to the official website of Income Tax https://www.incometax.gov.in.
- After login, click on Services menu and select ‘Refund Reissue’ option.
- Now click on ‘Create Refund Reissue Request’.
- Here you will see the details of the Assessment Year (AY) for which the refund has failed.
- Select the assessment year and click on Continue. Your bank account details will appear on the next screen.
- If the bank account is not pre-validated, validate it first. After completion of validation, select the same bank account and click on submit.
- After this your refund re-issue request will be submitted.
Main reasons for ITR Refund Failure
- Bank account not being pre-validated. Now refund is not issued without pre-validated bank account.
- If the name in PAN card and bank account is different, the refund may fail.
- Incorrect IFSC code can also prevent refund.
- If you have given a bank account in ITR which is now closed, then refund will not come.
